Place to hold a party? [10 Aug 2010|07:50pm]
My fiance and I are getting married this Halloween in Boca Raton. The Friday night before, we want to have a Halloween party for all our friends, kind of a bachelor/ette shindig. We're looking for a place that will hold up to 50 people -- with me and FH included, if everyone were to attend, we'd have 46 people. Food and drink are not required, as we'll be providing the nosh and the party is otherwise BYOB (bring/buy/whatever). A separate room is pretty much a requirement, though we don't really care if it's a restaurant or a big ol' space.

We're hoping to find a place somewhere either in Deerfield Beach, Coral Springs, or somewhere in between.

So... can anyone recommend a place?

Thanks in advance! :)

I like the little sticker they give me when I vote. There's some well spent tax payers dollars. [18 Sep 2008|11:13pm]

[ mood | voting is fun like freedom ]

Patty Wiggington on The Pagan Voting Project:

Seriously, if you live in the US and you haven't registered to vote, do so. Your voice can't be heard if you don't exercise your right -- no, your duty -- to get to the polls on November 4th. I hear a lot of people say "Well, you can't trust politicians so I'm not voting." That's a cop-out. Our country was founded on the idea that everyone gets to participate in government. If you don't do your part, that means someone else is making the decisions for you, because they took the time to show up. Much like magic, voting gives us the power to bring about change in things we don't like.

Take a stand. Make your mark. Cast your vote, for whoever and whatever you may believe in.

Presidential Candidates and Faith.

For anyone in Florida, if you haven't registered to vote I have stacks (and I do mean STACKS) of voter registration forms. And if you like Obama (no matter where you live) I have free bumper stickers. Comment if'n you'd like one (limited amount, so first come, first serve. I have GLBT ones as well as the plain).

Vote or P-Diddy I'll kill you.

FPL: Power outages caused by nuke plant shutdown

A nuclear reactor south of Miami experienced "a significant equipment failure'' Tuesday afternoon, triggering an emergency shutdown that left nearly a million people without power from Key West as far north as Daytona Beach and Tampa.

A spokesman for Florida Power & Light said the problems at the Turkey Point reactor were followed by an automatic shutdown for safety reasons. Spokeswoman Aletha Player estimated 700,000 customers were affected, adding that most will have power restored no later than 5:30 p.m.

"This is not a routine event, it's not routine at all,'' Player said at a 4 p.m. press conference at the Miami-Dade Emergency Operations Center. "We are still investigating ... we don't have all the details of what caused (the outage).''

Thursday's Meeting [02 Jan 2008|06:41pm]

We are pleased to announce that professional photographer Jerry Rabinowitz will be coming to South Florida Camera Club for our first meeting of 2008! This meeting will take place January 3rd at 7pm. You can view a map of the location by checking out our website: http://southfloridacameraclub.com

Jerry Rabinowitz has been a professional photographer for almost 30 years, and specializes in architecture and architectural based themes. His clients include national and regional magazines, corporate and advertising clientele. Jerry was a large format photographer for many years, but Jerry’s workflow has since become 100% digital. Jerry was president of ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers) in New Mexico, and lectured for Fujifilm. He now teaches lighting at Palm Beach Photographic Centre.

As a photographer, I always wonder why I shoot what I do, says Jerry. At the meeting Jerry will explore the process involved in image creation. Jerry states that “in the digital world megapixels, algorithms and workflow seem to rule”, and ask “Does the technical dominate or is the image the destination?” Jerry will also discuss architectural photography, as well as a look at the decision process in photography. All information about this event can be found here: http://southfloridacameraclub.com
